Personal Interview Assignment:

individual

worth one grade

due before fall break, October 17

This assignment is to be done individually.  It is graded as one item.   The Interview Report is due  by October 17 or before.  You may turn it in as soon as it is finished.

You will, during the beginning part of the semester, begin a list of questions or discussion topics for dialogue with someone who has suffered an economic security crisis:  your parents, grandparents, aunt or uncle, a surrogate "grandparent", a neighbor, roommate, or a friend who has faced life crises of disability, ill-health, and/or poverty.  In class, we will often come up with appropriate questions or topics to help you get started.

In person, by mail, phone, and/or email, you will ask the questions, carry on the discussion, learn about the "down-close and personal" nature of the person's experiences, difficulties faced, who helped and how, what governmental or not-for-profit agencies were contacted, hopes for the future, outlook for solution of the problems, etc.

The report of your discussions does not need to identify individuals by name.  You will probably need to indicate your relationship to them, however.  The report can be a written distillation of what you learned or you can create a transcript of the discussion.   I am the only person who will read your report unless you choose to reveal information during class discussion, so information will remain confidential.
