PAY ATTENTION!
YOU NEED
TO ORDER YOUR OWN BOOKS FOR THIS CLASS! THE BOOKSTORE WILL NOT
HAVE THESE TEXTBOOKS IN STOCK!
You must have them available at the beginning of classes. The Creighton
University bookstore will process special orders, or you can get them through
your local book store or online. It really doesn't matter to me how you
get them. Use your own judgment and value system to make this
decision. What does matter is that you, in fact, have them for use at the
beginning of the semester!
Places to look: amazon.com, half.com, borders.com, bn.com AND
 | http://www.bigwords.com -- Put in
the ISBNs of each of your choices. Bigwords will search the available
internet outlets and will return the best available total price, considering
availability, shipping, sales prices, special deals etc. When you have
the whole set ready, Bigwords leads you step by step through the purchase
process from the vendor(s) with the best total deal for you. It is a
totally cool way to find the books you need for this course! |

Required "Your Choice" Texts:
You will then choose one economic insecurity focus for the semester.
Order any three books from the list
relating to your chosen focus. Thus, we will have one common text
for the whole class and each student will also have three other books from which
to read and contribute to class discussion and written assignments.
The basic causes of economic insecurity fall into the following topics
areas (live links to the page with the text choices and descriptions
listed):
In many cases, economic insecurity is a result of a combination of more
than one of the above, and this will come out very clearly in the reading,
regardless of which cause you choose for a focus, so don't worry about not
getting to see the other topics!
You will end up with FOUR books to read, three of which are chosen by you. I assume you will choose books, from the choices given, that are the
most interesting to you. The total cost of the four books (one
required that was MY choice, plus three required that are YOUR choices) should be less than $100 unless you choose a more expensive one from the
lists. Some of the more expensive books are also extremely interesting, so if you
have a few extra dollars, you might want to consider spending a little more.
